The whereabouts of Trans Zoia Governor George Natembeya remain unknown after his party claimed he was arrested while travelling to Malava Constituency on November 27, 2025.
According to Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K), plain clothes officers intercepted Natembeya en route and took him into custody. His supporters quickly gathered in Kitale town to demand his release.
But the National Police Service (NPS) and regional authorities deny arresting him. A formal complaint or record at any police station has not been reported.

Backdrop to the mystery is the recent withdrawal of Natembeya’s official security detail. He and other leaders lost their police protection overnight. The government says the withdrawal is part of broader efforts to curb misuse of firearms among VIP-attached officers.
Natembeya has publicly decried the withdrawal as unconstitutional and a direct threat to his safety. He accused the government of political intimidation.
As of now, no credible information reveals his current location. Residents remain anxious, protests have erupted, and political tension is rising in the region, all while the government maintains he is not in custody.
