On December 23, techpreneur Evans Mwaura Githua fell to his death from a 14th-floor Airbnb at Alba Apartments along Kasuku Road in Kilimani, Nairobi. The Com Twenty One CEO’s death is being treated as a suspected suicide
The tycoon’s firm served major institutions, including State House, Parliament, the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenya Ports Authority, and Huduma Kenya. He was known in the industry as a low-profile but successful businessman.
Evans Mwaura Githua Final Moments
Police reports show that Githua checked into a short-stay apartment on the night of December 22 at about 8:54 p.m. He arrived alone and booked a bedsitter room on the 14th floor. This was the last confirmed sighting of him alive.
Later he would fall to his death.
His body was found naked behind the apartment building, with allegations he jumped from the rear window. Police observed severe injuries, including a broken right leg, head injuries, and deep cuts on both wrists.
The police reportedly found the room locked from the inside and had to break the door to enter.
Inside, the room was in a disturbed state. There was blood spilled across the floor, bed, wardrobes, and into the bathroom area, suggesting he had injured himself while inside the room.
Officers recovered several items from the room.
These include clothes, two mobile phones switched to flight mode, a wallet, an empty bottle of Bacardi alcohol, a can of Monster energy drink, xylocaine spray, a scalpel, a fork with residue, lemon water containing a yellowish liquid, two tablets, a black flask with a clear liquid, another black flask containing a wet paste, and a bag with personal effects.
A chair and a towel were found in the shower area, which police said pointed to attempts to take his own life.
Investigators believe Githua injured himself inside the room before later jumping through a rear window.
Family members told police they became worried after Githua failed to return home and his phones went offline, which was unusual for him. This raised concern and led to follow-ups that later ended in the tragic discovery.
Police concluded that Githua died after falling from the 14th floor, with blood loss and injuries from the fall contributing to his death. His body was taken to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
