Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has set a new national record time of 6.63 seconds on his debut in the 60 metres at World Indoor Tour’s Miramas Meeting in France.
The African 100m record holder broke the national record of 6.70 seconds that had been standing for the past 17 years twice. Initially, Paulvince Obuon held the national record over the distance having clocked 6.70 seconds on January 28, 2005, at State College, United States.
Omanyala is in France making his debut at the Meeting Elite de Miramas, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze meeting.

Omanyala arrived in South-eastern France on Tuesday, February 1. He had initially set a target of running the distance in less than 6.50. But it appears to have escaped him.
The sportsman took to his social media platforms to announce the good news.
After the February 4 race, Ferdinand will be heading to Paris where he is scheduled to take part in two more races; Mondeville Meeting on February 9 and the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais in Paris on February 17.
He has also set his eye on the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia slated for March 18-20. And the World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 in Eugene, the USA from July 15-24.
