FAITH KEMUNTO: HOW A KILLER BOYFRIEND’S TEXT LED DETECTIVES TO STUDENT’S BODY

Faith Kemunto, 20, left her home in Kanani village, Nyamira, on July 27, 2025, to meet her boyfriend Gideon Angisa, 22. She had just finished Nyamusi Girls’ School and was set to join Machakos University. She never came back.

Her disappearance prompted her parents, Grace Nyaitondi and Charles Obino, to report the matter at Nyamuri Police Station. But a month of searching brought no answers.

Then, on or around September 1, a chilling message came from her own phone.

Her brother first received a request for Sh500 which he declined to send. Soon after, another text came through, and this one was far darker: “We killed Fay and buried her.” It also gave directions to a spot near a big water tank in Maosi village, where soil had been dug out.

This was the first big break in the case.

Detectives from the DCI Homicide unit and Nyamira North officers rushed to the site, known locally as Mang’ong’o quarry.

The area was sealed off. A shallow grave was found, and a body believed to be that of Faith Kemunto was recovered, along with her clothing. The Nyamira Law Courts later issued an order for exhumation. Forensic experts will use DNA analysis to confirm the identity, while a government pathologist will conduct a post-mortem.

Investigators traced the phone’s digital footprint to Huruma estate in Nairobi.

The main suspect, Faith’s boyfriend, Gideon Angisa, 22, was tracked down and arrested there. He was found in possession of Faith’s phone.

Interestingly, Faith Kemunto had known Gideon Angisa since her high school days. He was escorted back to Nyamira and is being held at Ekerenyo Police Station.

Angisa was arraigned at Nyamira Law Courts on September 6 under heavy guard. He appeared alongside a co-accused, Vinic Kemunto, who is alleged to have sheltered him while in hiding in Nairobi. The prosecution requested more time to complete the investigation. The court granted a 21-day custodial order.

During this period, detectives will finalize forensic tests, complete the post-mortem, and collect detailed witness statements.

Both Faith and Angisa were expected to start university this month. Instead, her family is mourning and waiting for justice, while the case against her boyfriend and his co-accused unfolds.
