Comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi is doing the government’s work after he bravery rescued Athi River residents marooned by severe floods using a boat.
In a heart-wrenching video shared on his Instagram account, Eric could be seen directing a pickup truck carrying a small boat to the flooded areas. With determination etched on his face, he guided the boat into the deeper waters where it could be deployed for rescue operations.
As the camera captured the harrowing scenes of submerged houses and desperate residents stranded on their rooftops, Eric’s actions spoke louder than words. With each trip back and forth in the boat, he brought individuals to safety, navigating through the murky waters with skill and determination.
Despite the challenging conditions, including rainfall persisting into the night, Eric and his team pressed on with their rescue efforts. The urgency of the situation was palpable, with lives hanging in the balance as the floodwaters continued to rise.
In a powerful message accompanying his video, Eric didn’t mince words when addressing the government’s response to the crisis. He criticized the authorities for their perceived negligence and slow action, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life.
“The government of Kenya should rush to Mangeli Athi River before it’s too late!” Eric exclaimed in his Instagram post. “Disaster is about to strike! There are families stuck on the rooftops, and time is ticking.“
Despite the odds stacked against them, Eric and his team managed to rescue an impressive 34 people within a few hours.
He however noted that hundreds others were still stuck with their children and that disaster can strike at any time.
