In a recent courtroom drama, Anne Adhiambo, the prime suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo, entered a guilty plea in court.
Shockingly, the defendant, chose to enter a guilty plea despite receiving three clear warnings from Justice Kanyi Kimondo regarding the potential consequences of such a plea. When the judge, inquired thrice if she comprehended the nature of the charges against her, she steadfastly affirmed her understanding.

The charges were read to her three times in Swahili when she appeared before High Court Judge Kaanyi Kimondo to take a plea on Thursday; she repeatedly said, “Ni Ukweli.”
She is set to face trial as an adult because she successfully passed a mental and age evaluation at Mathari Hospital on October 12, 2023.

The murder
Eric Maigo was found dead on September 23, 2003 with 25 stab wounds at his residence in Woodley Estate. Investigations suggest that Maigo spent his last night alive in the company of Anne, who was part of a group involved in the violence that led to the death of Eric Maigo. Consequently, the primary suspect Anne Odhiambo was arrested on September 26 in the Olympic area within Kibera.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was in the company of the respondent herein before he was found murdered where she is suspected to have attacked the deceased while armed with kitchen knives.”
The court heard.
The investigating officers recovered the murder weapons- two bloody kitchen knives at the crime scene.
