DPP Noordin Haji has refuted claims by the CEO of Keroche Breweries, Tabitha Karanja that he doesn’t intend to charge those responsible for the death of Tecra Muigai.

Tecra Muigai passed on in may 2020. Her boyfriend Omar Lali was arrested as the suspect. But he was later set free after the DPP dropped the murder charges against him.

However. last week, Tabitha Karanja (Tecra’s mother) raised suspicions in the way the DPP was handling the case.

So she argued that the idea to move the case from Milimani courts to Lamu courts posed threat to their lives. Read the article.

However, the DPP has responded saying that he has no personal interest in the case. And also said that there was no substantial evidence of murder against the suspect Omar Lali as recommended by the investigating agency.

The DPP went ahead to say that the decision to have the inquest conducted in Lamu was not random.

But several factors had been put into consideration. Among them is the fact that the crime was committed in Lamu, the scene of the crime, and important evidence were also in Lamu. Thus it would be easier to have the case conducted there since evidence collected in Nairobi will not be of help.

There is no evidence to show that the DPP or any of his officers were compromised or influenced to make the decision. Prosecutor Evelyn Onunga said on behalf of Haji.

Nonetheless, the DPP noted that the matter will be handled with professionalism.
