The boda boda community in Nairobi is mourning the death of a delivery rider, Anthony Olwal, who was allegedly killed while on duty in South B.
Olwal had been tasked with delivering an iPhone 17 Pro Max on a pay-on-delivery basis. His wife, who sells phones online, sent him after securing a customer.
According to Olwal’s colleague, Fredrick Muga, Olwal left for the delivery on the morning of Tuesday, November 18. Later in the day, he could not be reached. His phone went off in the same area where he was to make the delivery.
AMuga said Anthony Olwal was allegedly directed by the clients, two men, to a second-floor guesthouse apartment. A confrontation followed when Olwal demanded payment. He was reportedly tied up and killed. His body was later found hidden under a bed.
“They tied his legs, feet, and mouth, then hid the body under the bed before leaving,” Muga explained. “Olwal never gets into clients’ homes. I don’t know how he was lured into the building.”
CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspects struggling with the house manager before leaving with Anthony Olwal’s phone. Muga warned that delivery work, especially for phones, is becoming increasingly risky.
A postmortem was conducted at City Mortuary on Wednesday, November 19, though the results have not yet been released.
The incident has sparked outrage among Kenyans, with calls for stronger security measures to protect delivery workers.
