Nigerian musician David Adeleke, known as Davido, recounted how his father, Adedeji Adeleke, suggested he take legal action against Kenyan media outlet K24 for an April Fools’ Day prank about his detention.
On April 1st, K24 published a false article alleging Davido’s arrest at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The piece claimed illegal substances were found on his private plane after performing at Kenya’s Raha Festival.
Initially dismissed due to its April Fool’s Day timing, the article gained attention, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to debunk it as a hoax.

Despite intending to ignore it, Davido changed his stance after his father’s intervention. Adedeji Adeleke expressed concern over the potential damage to Davido’s reputation and security issues during his travels.
In a TikTok video shared by @musicindustryblueprint, Davido acknowledged his father’s advice and opted to pursue legal action against the media outlet responsible for spreading the false information.
Davido said, “My dad was calling me like, ‘Where are you at?’ I was like, ‘I am home’. He’s like, what’s this? And I see it on the net, and at first I was like, no, I am not going to report it.
“Just let it go. It’s April Fools. Then my dad was like ‘no because you can fly a plane to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you’…I have not seen that type of drug in my life.
“So yeah, I am taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just do not.”
