A police officer is among three individuals arrested in connection with the Saturday morning fatal shooting of Anthony Njomo, a US embassy employee, outside Qukin Lounge in Kiambu.

Njomo, 36, worked as an electrical engineer at the embassy.

Kiambu County Commander Michael Muchiri confirmed the arrests and the seizure of a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

“Today, we arrested a third suspect who is a serving officer, and a firearm alleged to have been used in the fatal shooting was also confiscated,” Muchiri stated.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the case, with homicide detectives leading the investigation.

“Two individuals were presented in court, where investigators requested more time to conclude the murder inquiry. The third suspect will also be brought before the court,” Muchiri elaborated.

Investigating officer Peter Kingawi requested a 20-day extension for the investigation, but a Kiambu court granted a 10-day extension instead.

Anthony Njomo Struck by Stray Bullet

Njomo was reportedly struck by a stray bullet while speaking on the phone across the street from the nightclub. A commotion outside the club, reportedly over a woman, led to a gunshot and chaos as people scattered for safety.

David Njomo, the family spokesperson, expressed the family’s devastation, describing the incident as unfortunate since the victim was merely a bystander.

“We viewed the CCTV footage captured by the club, which showed our relative speaking on the phone a short distance from the establishment. Suddenly, a confrontation erupted, and an individual wielding a firearm was observed discharging it. The next moment, our relative was seen falling,” David Njomo recounted.

Njomo’ family’s is demanding for justice, noting that the perpetrator is identifiable in the footage.

“We urge the police to thoroughly investigate every aspect of this case. Our relative deserves justice as he was innocent,” he stressed.

Njomo, described as cheerful, amiable, and sociable, is survived by his pregnant wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old son. The family has initiated funeral arrangements while awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
