Kenya has confirmed the death of its first citizen fighting for Russia in the Ukraine war. The man, Martin Macharia Mburu, travelled to Moscow thinking he would get a driving job. Instead, he was forced into the battlefield after only three days of training.
Ukrainian officials have shared photos of his body and documents, proving his identity. His death has raised concerns about the growing number of foreigners being lured into the conflict.

Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi says about 200 Kenyans are currently fighting for Russia. Recruiters in Kenya and Moscow target job seekers with promises of high pay.
Some Kenyans rescued from the war say they were made to assemble drones and handle dangerous chemicals without proper safety gear. Many did not know they would be sent to fight.
President William Ruto has asked Ukraine to help release Kenyans stuck in the war. Kenya’s Embassy in Moscow has also reported injuries among those recruited.
Recruits were promised up to $18,000 (Ksh 2.4 million) to cover travel and living costs. But many ended up in direct combat instead.
The Government is warning citizens to be careful about fake job offers abroad and is working to bring home those still trapped in the fighting.
