Albert Ojwang’s father, Meshack Ojwang, now wants Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Eliud Lagat arrested and prosecuted. He alleges that Lagat ordered his only son’s abduction, torture, and killing while he was being held by police.
In a replying affidavit supporting a petition dated June 24, 2025, Meshack describes what he believes happened to Albert. He says Albert was a respectful young man with a bright future, whose life was violently taken while in police custody.

Albert was arrested on June 7, 2025, at their home by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The officers claimed that Albert had shared information linking DIG Lagat to corruption within the police service.
At first, Meshack hoped the case would be handled fairly. But as more information surfaced, he became convinced that the arrest was targeted and that senior police officials were trying to protect Lagat. He calls it a “state-sanctioned cover-up.”

Several lower-ranking officers have already been arrested and charged at the High Court in Kibera over Albert’s fate. But Meshack insists these officers were simply taking orders — and that true justice means holding DIG Lagat accountable.
He says Albert was secretly held at Central Police Station in Nairobi, where he was tortured, humiliated, and beaten on Lagat’s instructions. Albert later died from serious injuries, including blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation.
The Inspector General of Police initially claimed Albert committed suicide. But Meshack rejects that explanation, pointing to a post-mortem report showing injuries consistent with torture and strangulation.
He is now asking the High Court to stop the ongoing trial of the junior officers until Lagat is also arrested and charged. Meshack says justice for his son will only be achieved if Lagat is prosecuted as the lead suspect. The family fears that without court action, they will never get closure.
