Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has spoken candidly about her struggles with reproductive health, revealing years of painful menstruation that left her hospitalized, fibroids, and an early onset of menopause.
The self proclaimed Bad Girl recalled being admitted to hospital almost every month while growing up because of severe menstrual pain.
“Every time I was having periods, I would be admitted to hospital,12 times a year,” she said.
Doctors later discovered she had fibroids, which were surgically removed. After the procedure, her periods stopped, something she described as a huge relief.
“For me, my greatest nightmare was my periods. When they stopped, I was just happy,” she said.

Two years later, however, her periods resumed. Millie said she panicked after hearing that bleeding after menopause could signal cancer. She underwent multiple tests and was told she was in pre-menopause, a term she admitted she had never heard of before.
“That is how bad it is. And I am a lawyer with so many degrees,” she noted, emphasizing the lack of awareness even among educated women.
The MP also spoke about losing part of her hair, which she linked to hormonal changes, adding that she has had to find creative ways to cover the bald spots.
The outspoken legislator shared her personal journey while addressing the National Menopause Conference, where she urged leaders and health stakeholders to break the silence around women’s health issues.
Millie called for open conversations on menopause, reproductive health, and women’s experiences, arguing that silence and stigma leave many women suffering in isolation.
Her honesty struck a chord online, with Kenyans praising her bravery. Many said her story reflects struggles faced by countless women but rarely spoken about.
