Kenyan rapper Nyamari Ongegu, better known as Nyashinski, has signed a big recording deal with global music giant Sony Music. This is a major moment in his career.
The news was shared on Sony Music’s official Instagram page on Thursday, August 14, 2025. It came with the release of his new single Tai Chi, which is the first of many projects he will release under Sony Music Africa.
This deal is seen as a big step for East African music, putting the region on a bigger stage and making Nyashinski one of its leading voices.
Nyashinski Speaks on Sony Music Deal
Nyashinski, who once beefed with Producer Cedo, shared his excitement on Instagram, saying:
“Paperwork done. Let’s work. Excited about the next chapter! Thank you for the warm welcome.”

Talking more about the moment, he said:
“This is a product of my choices and lots of love and support. This is how we got here. It’s an exciting time for me, my family, and my team.”
He also said the deal is more than just a contract. For him, it is a way to honor East Africa’s rich music history and to tell the region’s stories to the world.
Nyashinski started in the early 2000s with the popular rap group Kleptomaniax. After the group took a break, he moved abroad for several years. In 2016, he made a strong comeback with hits like Now You Know and Malaika, showing a new and mature style.
Since then, he has stayed at the top of the charts and grown from a group artist to one of Kenya’s most influential solo musicians. Now, with Sony Music, his career is set to reach an even bigger global audience.
