Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has taken legal action against her ex-boyfriend, Musa Hussein Lenyumpa. She accuses him of harassment, threats, and falsely claiming they are married.
In October 2024, the Senator officially announced her engagement to one HM.
This is what she wrote: “It’s a Resounding YES from the Elders of the Clan of cows that lick fire(Quaro) to the Son of the Lake Drinkers(Sarima). And because only Sages will understand, I beg to break it down. I am officially traditionally engaged to a fine top Brain Dr. Hussein M.L, the gentleman who is after my heart and is apparently sitting inside it eating popcorn while swinging on a grandpa rocking chair.

The pair then went for the customary wedding.
The dispute began after a planned Samburu customary wedding was cancelled. .
Why did Senator Hezena Lemaletian Cancel Wedding?
Lemaletian says no dowry was paid, only a courtship token of KSh 100,000, which she has returned in full. She explains that Lenyumpa was supposed to send KSh 50,000 but sent double, upsetting the elders.
After revoking the elders’ consent for the marriage, Lemaletian ended the engagement following a background check on Lenyumpa that disappointed the elders.
Since then, Lemaletian claims Lenyumpa has been violent, abusive, and used social media influencers to tarnish her reputation. She fears these false claims could harm her political career.
On August 12, 2025, a Nairobi court issued temporary orders protecting Lemaletian. The orders prevent Lenyumpa from contacting her, using her image or name, posting about her on social media, or approaching her home or workplace. They also bar him from harassment or threats. Both parties will return to court on September 22, 2025, to decide if the orders should continue.
This is not the first time Lemaletian has expressed concerns for her safety. In June 2025, she publicly warned that a politically connected family in Samburu and their allies should be held responsible if anything happened to her.
The case remains ongoing as the court weighs the protection requests.
