Genge star Major Nameye Khadija, known as Mejja, has opened up about why his group The Kansoul broke up.
The Kansoul was made up of Mejja, Madtraxx, and Kid Kora. The group was pretty popular in Kenya, but ir split in 2023.
Speaking in an interview with Alex Mwakideu on August 9, 2025, Mejja said there was no big fight. It happened because of several small reasons over time.
Why did The Kansoul Split?

He said it started in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. One member had just got a newborn baby. He did not want to go out or meet up because he feared catching the virus. Mejja understood, but it slowed down the group’s activities.
After that, their music careers started going in different directions. Mejja wanted to keep performing and making hits, but others were exploring different paths.
Mejja also said life changes affected them. When they began the group, none of them had children or families. As they got older, relationships, children, and family life came in. This brought more opinions and sometimes outside influence.
He explained that most music groups don’t break up because of fights between members. It’s often because of “outside factors” — people from outside the group who interfere, especially partners who might complain about money or trust.
Madtraxx has also spoken about the split before. He said their priorities changed after becoming fathers. Mejja was focused on hits and income, while he just wanted to make music for fun.
Even though the group ended, Mejja said they are still friends, still talk, and still support each other.
