As Kenyans struggle with high taxes, the government has increased spending by Ksh.86.18 billion, including Ksh.4.8 billion for State House, President Ruto’s office, and Deputy President Kindiki’s office.

Treasury has requested these additional funds for the current fiscal year through a supplementary budget submitted to Parliament on Tuesday.

Budget Increase: Who Gets What?

President Ruto.

The State House budget will nearly double from Ksh.4.3 billion to Ksh.8.1 billion, covering salaries, travel, national celebrations, and operational costs.

This includes Ksh.1.5 billion in unspecified expenses, Ksh.732 million for domestic travel. And Ksh.700 million for salaries and perks.

President Ruto’s office gets an additional Ksh.651.7 million, bringing its total to Ksh.3.6 billion, covering government printing, administration, counter-terrorism, and policy work.

Deputy President Kindiki’s office will receive Ksh.420.4 million for salaries, travel, and administration.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia’s Mudavadi’s office has been allocated an additional Sh133.4 million.

The increase comes despite a government push to cut non-essential spending and President Ruto’s earlier promise of austerity, after last year’s deadly protests over the 2024 Finance Bill.

The Bill was pushing for additional revenues of Sh345 billion..
