Police are investigating the death of a cancer patient who had been admitted to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH). This comes a few weeks after a KNH patient was murdered in his hospital bed.
According to a family member, 53-year-old Albert Chesang, who was battling stomach cancer, was admitted to MTRH Eldoret and left the hospital under unclear circumstances on Monday, January 20.

A police report states that his body was discovered in a bushy area near River Sosiani, a kilometre from the hospital. The body was severely decomposed and partially eaten by dogs. Both his legs and arms were missing.
Preliminary investigations indicate that before leaving the hospital at night, the patient removed his hospital garments, put on his clothes, and walked away. Officers are now treating all security personnel on duty that night as prime suspects.
Uasin Gishu Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed that detectives are working to determine how Chesang managed to leave the hospital undetected and the cause of his death.
“The patient has been identified, and his family has been informed. Investigations are ongoing,” he said.
His remains have been taken to the morgue for further examination as the probe continues.
