The DCI has made a breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of Sospeter Onyango Osungo, also known as Akoko Sirkal, a popular student at Kirinyaga University. The arrest of Brian Otieno Maurice, the prime suspect, was confirmed in a statement released by the DCI on December 9, 2024.

Akoko, a fourth-year student studying architecture and an entrepreneur known for his lavish lifestyle, was killed on November 18, 2024, in Nairobi’s Kibera slums.

The incident occurred after a confrontation with a group of boda boda riders outside a local club. Witnesses reported that Akoko was attacked by the gang, which left him with fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.

The DCI’s investigations initially led to the arrest of three individuals who provided crucial information that pointed to Maurice as the main suspect. Through this intelligence and further investigation, Maurice was apprehended and is now set to face charges in court.

Akoko had risen to fame through his ostentatious social media posts, where he showcased luxury cars, partying, and a lifestyle that many of his followers admired.

His exact sources of income were never clearly disclosed, though it was widely believed that he made his fortune through forex trading and cryptocurrency investments.

His death shocked many, especially following the recent passing of another Kirinyaga University student, Dennis Oduor Otieno, who also gained attention for his wealth and lifestyle.
