A Form 2 student at Friends School Kamusinga has tragically died after falling into a septic tank within the school premises. The Sunday, September 15 incident has left the school community in deep shock and mourning.

According to Moses Poipoi, the chairperson of the school’s Board of Management (BOM), the student was immediately rescued and rushed to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to Life Care Hospital for further care.

Unfortunately, despite efforts by medical staff, the student passed away around 7:00 p.m. while receiving treatment.

“I received a call from the principal at around 4:00 p.m. informing me of the tragic event. The student was retrieved from the septic tank and taken for medical treatment, but sadly, he did not survive,” Poipoi stated.

The Ministries of Education and Interior are investigating the incident to determine how the student fell into the septic tank.

Meanwhile, the school’s executive team and staff addressed the students, providing support and ensuring that calm was restored within the school.

“We have resolved to review and strengthen safety and security measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again,” Poipoi added.

On behalf of the school’s management, students, and staff, Poipoi expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased student, saying the school stands with them during this painful time.

This incident adds to a series of tragic events involving students across the country, including the Hillside Endarasha Academy fire that killed 21, raising concerns about safety within schools.
