Revelers are in shock following the shutdown of the popular 1824 nightclub. Online images depict unidentified individuals removing furniture and other items from the club, while uniformed police officers observe the scene. The club’s distinctive whisky barrel tables are scattered across the front area, and a police officer surveys the surroundings.

Why did 1824 Shut Down?

The club, located along Langata Road was shut down after its owner, Wilson Nahashon Kanani had run-ins with law officers. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) froze his accounts after valuing his assets at Sh643 million.
Yet, Kanani is a City Hall employee with a modest salary of Ksh.55,000. Additionally, he only declared his salary as his sole source of income.

Elaborate Money Laundering Scheme

Apparently, Nahashon Kanani runs an elaborate money laundering scheme through various entities, including Wilman Auto Invests, Willy Walla International Limited, Regineez Enterprises Limited, and Wilcoreg Limited. The wealth of 1824 club owner Nahashon Kanani is reportedly the proceeds of corruption.
According to court records, Kanani received and moved Sh506 million between 2016 and 2022, channeling the funds through bank accounts registered under his name and those of relatives.
Will 1824 Reopen Soon?
1824 shut down at the height of the 2023 festive and merry season. However, it is difficult to ascertain whether or not the club will soon reopen.

Previously, 1824 closed down in 2022 at the height of COVID 19 over lockdown restrictions. Additionally, the police raided the popular nightclub and shut it down in 2022 on government orders that targeted all bars in residential areas. Yet on both occasions, the club reopened soon thereafter.
