12 PEOPLE DEAD IN KWALE PLANE CRASH

At least 12 people have died after a light aircraft crashed in the Tsimba Golini area of Kwale County on Tuesday morning.

The caravan plane, registration number 5Y-CCA, had taken off from Diani Airport and was heading to Kichwa Tembo when it went down at around 5:30 a.m.

According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the plane had 12 people on board. All of them died in the crash.

“The aircraft had 12 persons on board. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” said KCAA Director General Emile Arao.

Police said the victims are believed to be tourists.

Eyewitnesses said the plane burst into flames when it hit the ground. Photos from the scene showed the wreckage engulfed in fire.

Police and emergency service providers rushed to the site soon after the crash.

The cause of the accident is not yet known, but investigations are underway.

The aircraft is reported to have been operating between Mombasa and other tourist destinations across Kenya.
